OBJECTIVE
My objective is to bring a fresh,
positive energy to your team. I love people. I enjoy all facets of personal
interaction with people. Whether it's through electronic media like the
internet, in a group setting or one on one, I like to communicate with you on
your level. I like to dream and cross all boundaries until I reach out and touch
that dream. I wanted a website so I learned how to put one together and now I
have three. I wanted to live on top of a mountain in the Smokies so I went to
work at LeConte Lodge in the Smoky Mountain National Park. I wanted to immerse
myself further into the backcountry of the Smokies so I took the job of
Ridgerunner with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in the Smokies. I want to
explore new career opportunities so here I am!
WORK EXPERIENCE
February 2011 – The Present
Appalachian Trail Conservancy /
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Ridgerunner
Patrolling the 72.4 Miles of the
Appalachian Trail in the Smokies.
As Ridgerunner in the Smokies I
patrolled the AT in the Park. I have the awesome opportunity to interact with
hikers and backpackers on a personal level every day. My main function is as an
educator in the backcountry. In addition to acting as an information resource,
I get to educate hikers and backpackers on everything from “What do you do if
you see a bear.” to “Where do I go to the bathroom !” In conjunction with the
National Park Service, I am involved in first aid issues, search and rescue
operations, trail work, shelter maintenance, data collection and communication
with the Park Service and the Volunteers that take care of the AT.
There are perhaps no better people
than those that come to experience the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and
there is no better place to interact with them than here in the backcountry of
our beautiful Smoky Mountains.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
One of many Highlights
of my career was serving as the Winter Care Taker at LeConte Lodge in the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park. The Lodge is accessible by hiking trails only.
The shortest route to the Lodge is a 5 mile hike with a 3000 foot elevation
gain. This makes the Lodge quite remote. The LeConte Lodge closes in late
November and only houses a Winter Caretaker until mid March when the rest of the
crew returns to open the Lodge in late March. As Winter Caretaker I kept an eye
on the Lodge. I reported the weather to the National Park Service. I also
assisted the National Park Service with search and rescue efforts for hikers in
the Smoky Mountains National Park. I built a website with a daily blog that I
updated daily from the Lodge (www.LifeOnLeConte.com). After the success of my
view of life atop Mt. LeConte offered over the internet, the Management of
LeConte Lodge started their own blog to continue after I left the Lodge. I
will always benefit from the peace and serenity that serving as Winter Caretaker
at LeConte Lodge offered me.
Most days I can be found hiking
the fantastic trails in our beautiful Smokies, especially the AT. As your
Ridgerunner here in the Smokies I have the great opportunity to share the
awesome grandeur of God's creation. Every day I can log a Career Highlight.
